Children’s Outreach Worker

Yonge Street Mission is a Christian faith-based not-for-profit community called to demonstrate God’s love, peace and justice to those living with economic, social and spiritual poverty in Toronto. We are seeking a part-time Children’s Outreach Worker in Community Services for a one-year contract. Join us in transformative ministry in one of the most multi-cultural, multi-faith communities in Canada.

Our Children’s Program operates dynamic after school and breakfast clubs and summer camp for children aged 6-14 in the Regent Park community. Clubs include arts, tutoring, literacy, leadership development, music, gym and sports, outings, computer time and homework support.

Responsibilities:

The Children’s Outreach Worker will help to oversee and expand an innovative youth leadership and training program, outreach to the revitalized Regent Park community, especially hard to reach children, and help facilitate engaging effective programs that impact children’s lives.

Qualifications:

• Dynamic and enthusiastic with a passion for working with elementary age children in under resourced areas, with extensive experience in a multicultural multi-faith setting.
• Experience working with older children/younger youth in helping them to develop their leadership skills.
• Motivated, energetic, creative, artistic and able to motivate and engage children and their families.
• Demonstrated experience in understanding urban issues and community development.
• Good understanding of the school system and capacity to network with educators.
• A second language (e.g., Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Urdu, Bengali) is an asset
• B.A./B.S.W./B.Ed or equivalent; some program experience.
• Strong written and oral communication skills; able to work some evenings.
• A police check will be required / First aid training is an asset.
• A demonstrated commitment to YSM’s mission and values.

20 hours/ week for 1 year contract
