Evergreen - Summer Urban Misson Experience

Yonge Street Mission is a not-for-profit Christian faith community called to demonstrate God’s love, peace and justice to those living with economic, social and spiritual poverty in Toronto. Our Evergreen branch is seeking individuals to participate in a Summer Urban Mission Experience.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have the following skills and training:

• Currently in post-secondary education in Social Work, Humanities/Theology, Business, Human Resources, or Nursing and a returning student.
• A biblical understanding of the unique aspects of ministry and evangelism among those living with poverty and among youth-at-risk.
• Demonstrated interest in working with at risk youth.
• Good organizational skills and experience in program planning.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication, including presentation skills.
• A police check will be required / First aid training is an asset.
• Demonstrated commitment to Yonge Street Mission’s mission and values.

Responsibilities:

• Specific tasks include working with homeless street youth in a drop-in setting, supporting and encouraging them as they make choices to move on into healthier lifestyles, and meeting the individual needs of each youth;
• Develop a specialized ministry to assist at risk youth in an area of your gifting.
• One student will work on the health centre desk, greeting patients, pulling charts, and other duties as required. Another will work in the employment centre assisting youth with resume writing, job searching, life skills education and other employment related tasks.

Start Date and Finish Date: May 25th to August 27th, 2010
