We seek a trustworthy, energetic, reliable volunteer for Mondays or Tuesdays or Thursdays or Fridays during the day for at least 3 hours between 10:00am and 4:00pm. Volunteer Security Guards
Security guards are to be a presence in the store, walk around the store and make their existence known as they watch people to ensure the safety and security of the store and its contents inside and outside. Security guard training and/or theft prevention training an asset. Volunteers must have high energy, enthusiasm and be trustworthy, confident and take the role seriously. We are looking for volunteers who can commit weekly for the shifts of Monday afternoons between 12-7pm or Sundays from 12-5pm. We rely upon our volunteer security guards to commit to this role each week. Skilled Instrumentalists We are seeking 6 skilled instrumentalists to play on the Church at the Mission worship team on Sundays. In particular we need: Conga player (+ percussion if possible) player; or Strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass), or Reeds (sax, oboe, clarinet) or Horns (trumpet, Flugel horn, French horn, trombone). Critical to this request is that players be experienced, highly proficient on instruments, and be able to improvise their parts when supplied with basic chord charts and MP3 archives of worship songs. Rehearsals are Sundays at 1:30pm. All music must be learned by each instrumentalist before each Sunday, as the rehearsal is simply working out the arrangement and a partial song run-through. It is a high-pressure situation that requires a high-level of musicianship and flexibility. Auditions will be required. This would be an ongoing, occasional opportunity. Minimum commitment would be once a month, Sundays from 1:30pm-5:00pm. To learn more and apply for this position please contact Kelly DeVries at: kdevries@ysm.ca or call 416-929-9614 ext 4278
Book Fair Volunteers The Yonge Street Mission Book Fair is an opportunity to offer free used and new books to our community members. The Book Fair provides community members with the chance to own their own books. In 2011 we served over 1500 community members! This year we require up to 14 volunteers a day to help serve community members during the book fair. Volunteers need to be able to read English and must be 14+ years of age. We are seeking individuals or small groups. Dates are from June 13th-June 16th. For specific dates or information please contact Kelly DeVries at: kdevries@ysm.ca or call 416-929-9614 ex 4278
Pinch Volunteers We have last-minute volunteer opportunities that come up on occasion and we wonder if you would be willing to be a pinch or “on-call” volunteer for YSM. We may call you only a day or two ahead to ask if you can lend a hand to a project or initiative. Please let us know if this would interest you. Flexible timing is a must. Rarely opportunities come up on weekends so we mostly seek folks who would be available Monday to Friday during the day 9am-5pm or weekday evenings. To apply for this opportunity contact Michael Frank, Volunteer Administration Assistant, at 416-929-9614 ext. 4224 or mfrank@ysm.ca
