Volunteering at Yonge Street Mission
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Yonge Street Mission! Volunteers are highly valued at YSM. We recognize that volunteers play a vital role not only in Canadian society but also with YSM by helping to serve and walk with those living with poverty in Toronto; volunteers partner with us to work for peace, dignity and justice. Volunteers function as highly visible role models within our communities and they increase the capacity of YSM. Each year we rely on more than 3000 volunteers to be a part of our team to assist with programs, meals, food bank, tutoring, after-school clubs, health care, building maintenance, day camps, our youth drop-in and a wide variety of seasonal and special events activities. Volunteers make an incredible difference in our ability to provide effective programs to the community. We are most grateful to each individual and group who gives of their time and talents to make this difference to Yonge Street Mission’s communities.
INDIVIDUALS
Individuals are very welcome to volunteer with YSM. Please see our urgent volunteer needs below and the PDF attachment entitled “Volunteer Opportunities” to learn more about our current volunteer needs. Once you have found an opportunity that appeals to you please review our Volunteer Guidelines and complete the individual application form; both documents are found attached on this page. Please contact Ruth Pentinga, Director of Volunteer Resources, with any questions related to these opportunities and to send her your completed application at rpentinga@ysm.ca or 416-929-9614 ext. 4236. You will be contacted for an interview when we find a suitable match.
GROUPS
Groups are very welcome to volunteer with YSM. For group enquiries please contact Wendy Robbins, Volunteer Resources Administrator, at volunteers@ysm.ca or 416-929-9614 ext. 4278. See our urgent volunteer opportunities below and group opportunities highlighted in the “Volunteer Opportunities” PDF attachment. Please contact Wendy for more details and to discuss dates. To ensure the best experience for all group members the maximum size for a group is generally ten participants; if your group size is smaller than ten that is just fine too. If you have a group that is made up of more than ten people you can always consider dividing into smaller groups to volunteer with different programs; on occasion we have opportunities for groups that are larger than ten individuals, please contact Wendy to discuss. Please note our group application form is different than the individual one found on our site so please wait until you connect with Wendy before going ahead with any forms.
URGENT VOLUNTEER NEEDS
