Mentors believe in the worth and dignity of all people. Mentors recognize the magnitude of the responsibility he/she has accepted in choosing to work with someone and agrees to interact appropriately with their matched mentee according to the highest ethical standards at all times.
The mentor measures his/her success by the progress of their mentee toward realization of his/her potential. The mentor works with their matched mentee to establish mutual respect and friendship, as well as enhances the confidence and motivation of the mentee and the thoughtful formulation of worthy goals.
Mentors understand that mentoring is process-oriented. Meetings with your mentee should not be an attempt to ‘fix’ the things in their life you may consider are wrong. It is being there for them through the trials of life, to listen, guide, support and encourage. Mentors encourage and provide access to varying points of view. The mentor empowers the mentee to make “right” decisions without actually deciding for them.
The mentor believes that the quality of the relationship with their mentee directly influences the life and future of the mentee and therefore exerts every effort to maintain professional standards, improve his/her mentor skills and exercises good and professional judgment when engaged in any activity involving the mentee.
