“Imagine a city where every person feels they belong; where everyone has access to the resources they need to thrive and accomplish their goals. As a Christian faith organization, we believe that each and every one of the 500,000 people living with poverty in Toronto has immense value. For each person, the need for dignified living conditions, access to services and education, and the ability to establish gainful employment is urgent. All of our resources and energy at YSM are focused on working in partnership with community and colleagues in a way that responds to immediate needs, invites people into a journey of healing, supports individuals in meeting their goals, and engages our society to tackle the root causes and systemic barriers that continue to contribute to chronic poverty. We believe that if we combine our collective resources and wisdom, together we can reach our goal of ending chronic poverty in a generation. We invite you to join us.” – Angie Draskovic, President & CEO
From its humble beginnings in 1896 with a horse-drawn “Gospel Wagon”, Yonge Street Mission (YSM) has faithfully served the people of Toronto with compassion and dignity, helping those in need to turn their lives around. We’ve grown with our city, and adapted to its changing needs.
GOALS, VISION AND VALUES
Since opening our doors in 1896, The Yonge Street Mission has always been there, helping people from every walk of life to rise out of poverty.
ARTICLES OF FAITH
As a not-for-profit Christian faith community, we acknowledge that every person is created in the image of God and has inherent value and dignity. The Yonge Street Mission exists to glorify God and seeks to discover the mind of Jesus Christ and to serve Him forever by demonstration and proclamation.
Yonge Street Mission is a faithful steward of your trust. We honour your generosity by making every charitable gift work hard to transform the lives of those in need.
