Family 2 Family Mentoring

Volunteer, together with your family, to transform the lives of a family in crisis.

We invite your family to turn compassion into action by volunteering together to mentor a family in crisis with the purpose of modeling healthy family dynamics, reducing social isolation, and fostering joy.

Purpose

A mentor family will support a mentee family by building a trusting friendship with them.  This will serve as the foundation for a non-judgemental, safe, and warm relationship. A relationship that allows you to exhibit positive family dynamics, and celebrate together the mentee’s accomplishments, big or small.

Commitment

Your family’s commitment to this role requires a minimum of six (6) hours per month for eight months, however, the friendship it imparts has significant impacts on the life of a mentee family.

We are seeking coupled (nuclear) and single-parent families with children under the age of 25, in order to match you with one of our mentee families who also has children. We will attempt to match a family whose make-up is similar to yours.  We encourage families from all backgrounds and cultures to apply. YSM’s Family Services is also currently working closely with Afro-centric families who experience particular unique challenges and are in crisis.

There will be screening and training that your family will go through to build your family’s confidence and effectiveness as mentors.

Timing is flexible, according to your and the mentee family’s availability.

During COVID-19, family mentor meetings are limited to virtual meetings.
