For groups who want to “walk the walk” as they “talk the talk”! Here’s the chance to help youth out with your teams professional skills!
The Yonge Street Mission is looking for corporate or small groups of 5-6 individuals to help coach, counsel, and edit the resumes of youth as well as provide job interview coaching for our Youth Job Connect participants.
This is a one-time opportunity, or a once per month opportunity – usually during the last 2 weeks of the month!
We are seeking groups to volunteer from 9:00am to 12noon OR 1:00pm to 4:00pm. You choose what time works for you and your group.
The ideal volunteers in the group are mature, positive, professional, motivational, committed people, (minimum 25 years old) who have excellent communication skills. Volunteers must get along well with others and have great patience and understanding of youth that may be experiencing: higher levels of anxiety, low self-esteem, slower comprehension, and/or limited English vocabulary. Public speaking or HR/Recruiting experience is an asset.
The Youth Job Connection (YJC) Program focuses on youth with great employment needs who are experiencing significant employment barriers. These barriers include some combination of challenging life circumstances (poverty, homelessness), limited labour market experience, low levels of education or literacy, and discrimination. The ultimate goal for the YJC program is securing long-term employment in meaningful careers by providing our youth training, education, and resources in personal management, job readiness, employment skills, career exploration, job attainment, and career advancement. We believe that walking with our youth along this journey is a key element to their success.
