We are seeking a volunteer to assist our Opportunities Fund Program (OFD) staff to develop and facilitate practical and relevant workshops for participants. This will include using their education and career expertise to help develop and facilitate one of these workshop topics: Resume Building or Financial Literacy/Money Management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate one of these workshops: Resume Building or Financial Literacy/Money Management
- Ensure workshop is presented using a very practical, hands on approach
- Assist staff in identifying/developing/updating workshop content and materials
- Prepare and properly review workshop content and materials before each workshop
- Communicate with program staff about the required resources needed for each class, i.e. laptop, projector, handouts, etc.
- Maintain safe relationships and deep respect for all
- All volunteers and student placements shall adhere to all YSM volunteer processes, policies and guidelines
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- Degree/Diploma and/or career expertise related to OFD workshop topics: Financial Literacy/ Money Management, Resume Building
- Experience helping individuals craft tailored and impactful resumes that highlight their skills, experiences, and achievements.
- Assets: Workshop Facilitation, Public speaking, HR/Recruiting experience
- A sincere desire to understand and be sensitive to participants facing mental health challenges, marginalized peoples and different struggles and multiple obstacles that people may experience (e.g. attention deficit disorders, addiction issues, abuse-survivor effects, hygiene concerns, etc.)
- Mature and professional and at least 24 years old
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Caring, patient, friendly, culturally competent, and flexible
- Positive encouragement and affirmation skills, with a strong desire to help others solve problems
- Attend all volunteer orientation and training sessions as required
- Adhere to all YSM volunteer processes, policies and guidelines (including our YSM health and safety protocols).
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Clear vulnerable sector police check
HOURS of POSITION/LOCATION
- One day a week for 3 hours (Monday of Friday)
- 365 Spadina (Spadina and College)
