PURPOSE:
At Yonge Street Mission (YSM) we recognize the value that strong design and imagery can play in highlighting the impact of our work. The graphic design volunteer will play a crucial role in empowering residents by creating impactful materials that strengthen community development and capacity-building efforts.
POSITION SUPERVISOR:
Director of Community Development
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contribute your skill, creativity and ideas to help YSM’s Community Development team create one-pagers, posters, and other marketing needs specific to this department
- Carrying out tasks in a timely, efficient and accurate manner
- Adhering to and respect all YSM volunteer processes, policies, guidelines and the YSM Mission Statement
- Maintaining confidentiality at all times
- Maintaining patience, kindness and friendliness to YSM community members and staff at all times

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
- University degree and/or diploma/certification in a related academic field in graphic design
- Access to own computer and internet
- The ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize in a changing environment
- Effective, creative problem solving and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication skills: friendly and approachable, personable and customer relations focused
- Comfortable engaging with a diverse range of people, from a variety of lived experiences, and professional / socio-economic backgrounds (i.e. YSM Donors, Staff, Board Members, Community Members, etc.)
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- University degree and/or diploma/certification in a related academic field in graphic design
- Note: Please provide a sample of your work when completing your application
KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
- Community Development team
- Other YSM staff, volunteers, donors, and/or community members as applicable
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EXERTION:
- Work from home
- Using/looking at computers screen for extended period of time
POSITION TERM:
- Reflections/evaluations will be conducted by both volunteer and supervisor to determine progress in position
- Opportunity for ongoing volunteering
VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT:
- Location: Work from home
- Flexible schedule – to be determined with program staff
