Dear Volunteers,

It continues to be a strange and uncertain time locally and globally. We, your friends at YSM, truly hope that you and yours are keeping well and safe.

At the very least this global experience demonstrates our common vulnerability and reminds us, as a human race, that we are one.

We wanted you to know that we won’t provide you with a date on when we think we’ll be back to our “normal” functioning. Instead we are going to say, volunteer shifts are suspended until further notice.* As always, please contact YSM’s Volunteer Resources team if you have any questions related to volunteering with YSM:

If you are a sewist and would like to support YSM right now, we are asking our community to make face masks to be donated to YSM staff and volunteers working to serve and support our community members at this time. Read more and download the sewing instructions here.

To keep up-to-date on what YSM is doing today, please keep checking our website and our social media. And feel free check out this exciting YSM video on blog TO from March 29. Yes, we are still busy impacting poverty at YSM! Our hope and prayer is that soon we’ll be back to business as usual, and back in touch with you all, rallying you to help us as you have, or desire to, so generously already. Please stay hopeful and stay tuned to that time.

Our YSM family is thinking of you at this time and missing your presence at YSM!

Warmly, Yonge Street Mission’s Volunteer Resources Team

*Please note: we are still recruiting for student placements, for the spring/summer term, and for some particular volunteer positions.

With YSM, there are volunteer opportunities for every talent and timetable. If you’d like to help, we’d like to have you!

“I am a firm believer that one should share one‘s good fortunes, and this is one of the main reasons I volunteer at the YSM Clothing Drive [for the past 12 years]. The cause is so rewarding for all those who have lost their way, and helps them to find some hope and dignity. We have so much to be thankful for.” – Les, PATH Clothing Drive Volunteer.

Volunteers play a vital role helping-out in a variety of ways from tutoring children and serving meals to mentoring young adults or sharing professional health care services. Your time commitment can vary from an occasional, as-needed, opportunity to a regularly scheduled commitment with us, helping in significant and lasting ways. Consider joining our team of over 3500 committed volunteers by viewing our current open volunteer opportunities listed below.

We have group volunteer opportunities such as preparing and serving meals, craft workshops with street-involved youth and more!

Thanksgiving meals urgently needed.

Typically we serve more than 7,000 meals during the Thanksgiving season. This year, however, we expect to provide up to 28,000 neighbours with either a nutritious take-away meal or emergency food supplies.

Thanksgiving may not be the same this year but, thanks to donors like you, Yonge Street Mission will be here for neighbours in crisis.
