- Yonge Street Mission is seeking Teachers for our Computer Lab classes!
RESPONSIBILITIES
We are looking for an individual that has computer based skills in either Web Design or Programming to help existing teachers with sharing the teaching of the course load, and assist in classroom support. The right individual would be able to come in once a week to teach and help prepare lesson outlines for students. (Weekly for 12-14 weeks, or ideally the entire school year: October-May). The volunteer must be able to work in a team setting and be comfortable facilitating lessons to younger audience who vary in age.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- You will be tasked in a fun and easy way to teach the students to learn the basics of coding, website design and how the internet works.
- Teach the core building blocks of web pages, including HTML and CSS, as well as how the Internet works
- Contribute content ideas for our current computer course outline
- Develop hands-on lesson plans that culminate in a final project, where students utilize the skills they’ve developed
- Deliver hands-on computer lesson plans to children, in a way that engages them to learn new computer skills (Weekly for 12-14 weeks)
- Provide classroom supervision, answer student’s questions, etc.
- Help the children establish a friendly rapport with each other
- Assist in resolving conflicts as needed
- Work closely, cooperatively and collegially with the staff and volunteer team – calling on volunteer teaching assistant’s help for class instruction when needed
- Other duties as required
- All volunteers shall adhere to all YSM volunteer processes, policies and guidelines including understanding and adhering to YSM’s Child Protection Policy and Procedures
HOURS of POSITION/LOCATION
- Hours: To be determined based on the schedule of the volunteer and youth, but always after school and/or evenings
- Location: 306 or 310 Gerrard St. E., Toronto, ON
