Junior Fundraisers: A John Fenton Kids’ Engagement Program

Calling all elementary school teachers, children’s pastors, parents, and more!

Looking for ways to help children ages 8-12 learn how to support neighbours in need? Explore our collection of resources for Junior Fundraisers, inspired by many decades long donor and volunteer John Fenton. It includes simple ways for children to help others by collecting essential items or participating in raising funds.

John started supporting Yonge Street Mission when he was just 11 years old, inspired by his dad, a doctor who cared deeply for people in need.

When his dad first brought him to Yonge Street Mission, John felt scared and unsure, as it was his first time seeing youth impacted by poverty up close. But as he watched his dad speak kindly and respectfully with people, he realized they weren’t scary — they were just like him: people who needed care, friendship, and support. That moment changed John and inspired him to help however he could, even as a child.

Over his lifetime, John raised more than $250,000 for Yonge Street Mission through his generosity and commitment. He continued giving, volunteering, and participating in events for over 75 years! John has since passed away, but his legacy lives on through the many lives of struggling neighbours he impacted. His story reminds us that anyone, at any age, can make a difference.
