This holiday season, your compassion will help street youth, families in crisis and adults experiencing poverty celebrate the joys that the Christmas season brings.

Christmas in Toronto can be a time of incredible beauty – and incredible pain. For the thousands of youth, families in need and adults experiencing chronic poverty in our city, Christmas can bring aching cold and hunger, loneliness and heartache. Your support will help YSM spread hope to these individuals and let them know they are not forgotten. Your caring gesture will encourage a struggling neighbor and restore their dignity.

Here are some ways you can help us spread Christmas cheer this holiday season

In the weeks leading up to the Christmas season, host a Christmas toy drive to collect new toys and gifts to donate to our Christmas Market. Toys must align with YSM core values and can be dropped off at our administrative office at 306 Gerrard St. E. until 11am on December 19.

By organizing a food drive at your school, office or as part of another event, you can help keep our shelves stocked with healthy food and much need supplies. Our food bank and our Evergreen baby food bank have over 30,000 visits a year and this Christmas, many will continue to rely on us to help them provide for their families.

You can also become a Friend of the Food Bank by providing grocery store gift cards so we can ensure we keep our shelves stocked all year round.

By organizing a clothing drive, you can collect much needed winter essentials that will help keep struggling neighbours warm and dry during the winter months when cold frigid temperatures are a big challenge. Biggest needs include hats, socks, gloves, coats, boots and scarves (for all ages).

Creating and hosting your own event that raises money for YSM is a wonderful way to support our efforts to help our neighbours living with poverty.  Not only is it fun for everyone involved but it becomes even more memorable because it supports a great cause. Click here to get started.

Jubilee Designs is a YSM initiative focused on providing employment opportunities for homeless and at-risk youth. You can provide hope for street youth while checking off loved ones from your Christmas list. By shopping at Jubilee Designs, you are helping create sustainable change in lives of youth. Items range from scarves and totes, to accessories and home décor. Visit their online shop here.

Holidays are often a time for gift giving. By organizing a gift exchange of items needed for YSM, such as clothing, food or gifts cards, you can enjoy the spirit of giving and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our community.

You can also get involved by sponsoring a meal time.  Just $4.40 provides a warm meal for a struggling neighbour and other opportunities to transform their life through counselling, job skills training and more.

Other ideas include sponsoring a meal or providing donated goods.

YSM issues tax receipts for financial gifts, and items valued at more than $200. Proof of an item’s value, such as a sales receipt, must be provided. Gift cards are receipted at face value.

Please help us reduce transportation costs by bringing your donations to YSM. Should that not be possible, contact us and we will work with you to arrange a pick up time.
